Senior Reflection 4

SO I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M GRADUATING! It seems very surreal and I can't really feel if I'm graduating or not. I have yet to have that feeling of freedom or that feeling to burn all my books. And also, what if I trip up the stairs? Or even worse, down the stairs... And why the heck is Frank Wolf speaking at our graduation. I don't want him to, because it's probably going to be boring.
Hopefully when that fateful day comes I will be able to express emotion regarding graduation. Thanks Mr. Stroud for being my gov teacher! I'll see you in Gainesville.

Senior Reflection 3

So, I have to make this speech on Sunday for baccalaureate and it's kind of nerve wracking because I've never really made a speech before and also it has to be ten minutes long! I'm not sure how the crowd is going to react but hopefully they laugh at all my witty banter. Hey Stroud, will you be there? If so, be ready. It's going to be awesome. Also, basically my whole family is coming which makes me more nervous because they've never seen me talk to my peers. Hopefully I will do well!

Senior Reflection 2

So, I won a scholarship tonight and it's for five hundred dollars, which is cool because I can pay for my first year books! And I really like money for college so I was really excited. And then, I also won something else, the music medallion! - which I'm super excited for because I get to wear it at graduation. I'm really excited to wear my cords and medallions because it will make me look smart.

Senior Reflection

So, I really like the Jonas Brothers, especially Nick Jonas, and I thought I should share my love for them by saying what I like about them. They are totally cute and I really like their vocals and their guitar riffs and especially the stories of their songs. I don't understand why people don't like them and they are really AWESOME. Stroud, you should consider listening to them.

Finally, my last current event ever...well atleast for high school. Well, for my last current event I thought that I would do something in your face, hard hitting, and true journalism...which of course are all aspects of Seventeen Magazine! And there could not have been a better topic...TEEN PREGNANCY. With the startling statistic that "3 out of 10 girls will become pregnant before they turn 20" is not only crazy but makes me ponder the activity and knowledge of my generation. Well, what ever happened to protection? Common knowledge like this also makes me wonder about the intelligence of my generation. I think that while teen pregnancy is inevitable, it can be prevented and that sometimes, people should just think about their actions. But in the case of pregnancy, it is good to know ones options in a life changing event. That's why I think media has been a great help in educating young minds like myself, such as Seventeen Mag, the internet, and shows like "16 and Pregnant" which will air this summer on MTV. So, a lesson learned is to be well educated and to make important decisions...not dumb ones!

In this midst of a recession, it would be logical that businesses such as the Fashion industry would falter right away. However, at the Spring Fashion Week held in New York and Paris, everything was anything but scarce. Designers really shined this season with their use of muted colors with the mix of neon in a sort of 80's culture way. While some are not wearable at all, most were seen as possible outfits when in certain situations, maybe a lavish party perhaps? With the past trend of all is fair, and when i say fair i mean complexion wise, there was a reemergence of the wild makeup, with lots of brilliant color and complex patterns. It was hard not to turn your head this past season, which I'm sure will be making an impact on the fashions of Summer.

So, I am one to do whatever it is to make someone or myself stay alive to enjoy what life gives you. However, some parents would rather let their son suffer until their prayers are answered. The boy with the parents who denied chemotherapy after a diagnose of cancer should be questioned about their so called morals. However, the court calling it abuse might be taking it a little too far. I understand that yes, it is crazy of them to not let their son be a healthy being, but at the same time, don't the parents have control over him to make his decisions? It is like when a family will rather pull the plug than see a loved one suffer. Maybe their logic is that they would rather see him suffer naturally then withstand the side effects of radiation. While, this story may seem immoral, there could always be another side to the story...

Overdue and rushed, I am finally posting my current events and senior reflections. So here it goes...An event which may shock most has occurred at the Holocaust museum where a security guard was shot and killed by a white supremacist. With the emergence of this, I feel that this hate crime is outdated and embarrassing, especially in an age where people are accepting all races and other cultures. It is surprising to find that while there is more appreciation in the world, people still live in the cloud of ignorance of hatred and bigotry. While I usually don't condone death on people, I think the shooter deserves to die the same way his victim had to, and it would be better if he died in the shame that he has caused all of America to feel. The ridiculous manner of the crime has not only made me aware of how people are in the world, but also how I should approach life myself.

FINAL CE OF THE Q!

AIG cannot catch a break. First, they need help and now that help is being used selfishly, if using bailout money for bonuses is selfish...In the editorial, a different approach to the AIG scandal was told. Yes, it is bad that AIG would use bailout money for bonuses, but on the other hand, how were those workers supposed to get the bonuses that were promised in their contracts. Yes, this is tough times and people should be especially flexible to the ever changing economy, but is it fair that they don't get the bonuses they deserve. In my opinion, which I feel has no value now, would to be just give the bonuses in incraments if they have to. That way, the employees will get their money somehow and someday and then technically their contracts will still be followed. I'm just saying...I should totally be an economist.

CE #4 I believe...

As of now we know that the schools in Fairfax Co will not be opening later. But before the decision was made, what were the benefits and or consequenses of making school open later? For once, kids could get the better reccomended amount of sleep, however, if school were to start later, than there would be the option of staying up later than usual. Maybe if I were still a freshman I would like to have school open earlier. But as a senior, with much experience in waking up awfully early, I would rather wake up early and get the school day over with, so I could have atleast some hours of realxation. Imagine if school were to start later. School would end at 3 pm at the earliest. For those kids interested in sports, practice would go well into the night. And what about homework, when would there be anytime for that? NEVER! I am glad that the board decided to keep the hours early, because if I had to do for four years, so should my predecessors...

OKAY, so finally I am updating my blog...at the last minute. One editorial that intrigued me was one on racial gerrymandering. With all the restrictions preventing gerrymandering, I thought it would be over and done with. However, there have been reports of racial gerrymandering in the state of North Carolina, where one district was created around predominantly black neighborhoods which would influence the Democratic vote. I am a little confused to how this district even passed the restrictions, like connecting the borders and such. As recent as 1990 and beyond, there is still the argument over whether the gerrymandering should be allowed or not. In my opinion, I think it should totally be eliminated, because although it might not have to deal with racial tensions, it is just another way of isolation, which I think is unfair to voters who want to make a difference in their community than rather have the same administrations over and over again. I was very surprised with the information of gerrymandering, especially racial gerrymandering still in existence.

3QN2!

So, the last editorial I read was about the restrictions on guns. The issue at hand was not just about guns in general, but if it was logical to let past criminals who exercised domestic violence to own guns. Some opposed the criminals of having guns because they could hurt victims of domestic violence to more of an extent, possibly kill them. However, others argued that restricition of guns to those criminals will only make them find other weapons of abuse which could prolong domestic violence and lead to traumatizing abuse. Personally, I think guns should have had stricter laws years ago. But, there is some truth to those who argue against the stricter laws, because if the law allows past criminals to obatin guns, than there is nothing that I could do about that. However, there should be more of an effort for change so there could be some kind of elimination of domestic violence.

So this is really exciting, because I love editorials. Now, political ones I am not so familiar with, but fashion ones are awesome so I am just going to assume that political ones are as well. ANYWAY, the editorial I came across today was one about the power of pardoning. The editorial, which was in today's edition of the Washington Post, talked about how Bush only pardoned 189 or so criminals which is low compared to past presidents. Will Obama make the same "mistake" or will he pardon more lucky criminals? Well we won't know for a while but in relaity who cares who and how many people he pardons. I mean I would rather he pardon people based on merit and someone who has a legit case, but if its friends and colleagues it is just kind of stupid. But hey, when you have the power to pardon, use it to the fullest.

ALSO, the amazing blog IAMFashion is ending...how depressing.

Political Cartoon #4

This is no surprise that this cartoon is titled "2009 Predictions" and what's interesting is that I think this politcal cartoon can be interpreted in two ways. One way is that the prediction of 2009 is crazy and that it is not looking good. Or one could say that maybe the prediction is just unpredictable and she is running out because she doesnt know and because the man says "I dont like the look of this" means that he does not like the look of an unknown future. Anyway it is looked at, this a great cartoon because I think it also symbolizes the unifying factor of fear within everybody. Even the craziest of people are afraid. Hey guess what? I am finally up to date! I least I think I am...

Political Cartoon #3

What a perfect way to bring in the New Year...with a hangover! Just kidding...but really this cartoon is titled "New Years Hangover" and despite what you might think is an alcohol hangover is really a "debt hangover." I really like this cartoon because it is so fitting with the times and is creative. Its giving the idea that America is drunk off of debt and the "pain killers" are used to cure the pain of this debt not physical pain. I also like how 2009 is represented by the baby, even though traditional, I think it also symbolizes that with 2009's lack of maturity comes an overwhelming issue that everyone is caught in. Out of most political cartoons this has to be my favorite. Now I don't know what that ax is doing in the picture...

Political Cartoon #2

I love cartoons about the economy because they just make the situation more ridiculous than it already is. So in this cartoon which came out in Decemeber is modeling how the consumers who are shopping for the holidays may help the economy a little bit. Too bad that did not happen. Anyway, I really like how the situation is depicted with the woman's cart catching the economy as of it were an item she is looking for. And saying "I got it" just adds to the idea that consumers were going to save the economy. I think the idea in itself was a little stupid because think about it, if everyone else is involved in this economic let down, than why would shoppers be any different? Maybe in the future...but in no way now! Until the next 5 mins...

Political Cartoon #1

So, finally I update my blog. I was having some issues with the computer and it was just terrible. Anyway, here is my first political cartoon blog after a million years.
So this political cartoon is titled "White Women Can Jump Too" and I just thought it was interesting that they would depict Hilary Clinton this way. I feel like for her of course it would be degrading because it seems as if Obama is helping her gain political status when she obviously had it way before. I guess its just making a play at her selection as the Secretary and that maybe this is Obama helping her back up from her loss back in the summer of '08. However this cartoon may be perceived, I have to admit I do find it a little humorous. Until next time...which will be in like 5 mins.
